چکیده

The Multi-Center Traffic Management Advisor (McTMA) tool, being developed jointly by NASA and the FAA, is being tested to aid with the coordination and management of highly congested air traffic in the "Northeast corridor" of the United States. The McTMA systems interconnect to form a data network and are being field tested in six air traffic control (ATC) facilities: Boston Air Route Traffic Control Center (ARTCC), Cleveland ARTCC, New York ARTCC, Washington ARTCC, the Philadelphia Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON), and the Air Traffic Control System Command Center (ATCSCC). Concept testing and validation of this highly complex system were conducted in the McTMA simulation environment at NASA Ames Research Center prior to field test. A highly innovative simulation design was employed in order to efficiently test McTMA operating in the complex Northeast Corridor. This paper presents a description of that innovative simulation architecture and its environment.

The Multi-center Tma System Architecture and Its Impact on Inter-facility Collaboration

The success of the Traffic Management Advisor (TMA) system at Fort Worth Air Route Traffic Control Center (ARTCC) and other ARTCCs has prompted the further development of TMA to address problems in the congested environment of the Northeast corridor of the US National Airspace System (NAS). This region is characterized by terminal areas whose arrivals approach from more than one ARTCC thereby r...

Multi-Center Traffic Management Advisor: Operational Test Results

The Multi-Center Traffic Management Advisor (McTMA) is a research prototype system which seeks to bring time-based metering into the mainstream of air traffic control (ATC) operations. Time-based metering is an efficient alternative to traditional air traffic management techniques such as distance-based spacing (miles-in-trail spacing) and managed arrival reservoirs (airborne holding). While ti...

Expanding the Use of Time-based Metering: Multi-center Traffic Management Advisor

Time-based metering is an efficient air traffic management alternative to the more common practice of distance-based metering (or “miles-in-trail spacing”). Despite having demonstrated significant operational benefit to airspace users and service providers, time-based metering is used in the United States for arrivals to just nine airports and is not used at all for non-arrival traffic flows. T...

Routing Flexible Traffic into Metroplex

This research introduces the concepts of metroplex and flexible flight. The dependency metric between the airports in a metroplex is illustrated. Moreover, this paper focuses on metroplex routing algorithm. The authors establish a network model and develop the routing algorithm for flexible flights which fly from their original airports to destination metroplexes based on the model. The routing...

Design and Development of the En Route Descent Advisor (EDA) for Conflict-Free Arrival Metering

This paper describes the fundamental design and development of a new decision-support tool for time-based arrival metering, referred to as the En Route Descent Advisor (EDA). This automation is being developed at NASA Ames Research Center as a component of the Center-TRACON Automation System (CTAS). EDA computes advisories for the air-traffic controller to help deliver aircraft to an arrival-me...
